The path
Go back to the same SAP. Compliance gets you the eligibility date — and your follow-up plan is created at the same moment.
After you finish education or treatment, the same SAP — you cannot switch now — does a follow-up evaluation (49 CFR 40.301). The SAP reviews your completion proof and decides whether you successfully complied.
First, the SAP records your eligible-for-return-to-duty-testing date in the Clearinghouse — the second of only two dates a SAP ever enters. Second, the SAP creates your follow-up testing plan (49 CFR 40.307(a)): the number and frequency of unannounced follow-up tests, at least 6 in the first 12 months, for up to 5 years. That plan now exists, and it will follow you from employer to employer.
A SAP who finds you did not comply will prescribe more — more education, more treatment, or both — and the process loops back to step 3. Nobody can override that call (49 CFR 40.297).
Get the ReturnToDuty Kit — $49
One payment of $49. No subscription. The kit is a web page you can return to and print — the full playbook for choosing a SAP, taking the test with no employer, managing the follow-up years, and getting hired again.
If you bought a bundle ($399–$600 typical), usually yes. If your pricing was split, expect a separate follow-up fee — one published split example charges $275 for it. Ask before step 1, not at step 4.
Not yet. Eligibility means you may take the return-to-duty test. You are still prohibited until a negative test result is actually reported.
